Day two unsuccessful in search for missing woman near Grand Island
Today, volunteers and Search and Rescue completed a search of Grand Island, south of Dayton, in an effort to locate 27 year old Meighan Cordie, who disappeared on August 18th. Ground searchers were supplemented with drone flights, marine patrol, and a fixed wing plane, but were ultimately unsuccessful in finding Cordie. The effort was refocused late in the day to canvassing residences and businesses on Wallace Road, both north and south of its intersection with Grand Island Road.
“This was an incredible show of support for Meighan.” said Sheriff Tim Svenson, commenting on the hundreds of people volunteering their time to search. “The volunteer searchers, many whom are professional firefighters, were extremely organized and worked seamlessly with our Search and Rescue members. We remain hopeful we will find her and encourage anyone who has information about her possible whereabouts to call us. Our thoughts are with her family during this uncertain time.”
A briefing will be conducted in the near future to determine the next course of action in the investigation.
