City meetings to relocate for PSB seismic retrofit project

Newberg City Council and commissions are going on the road in September. Meetings will move out of the city’s Public Safety Building as construction work begins for a seismic retrofit of the facility.

Planning Commission moves to the Library on September 12th, and City Council will go there on September 16th. Meetings will be held in the Library’s Austin Room. Traffic Safety Commission will relocate to the City Hall for its meeting later this fall. Citizens Rate Review Commission will meet at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.  City Council meets on the first and third Mondays of the month. Planning Commission meets on the second Thursdays of the month. Traffic Safety Commission meets quarterly. Citizens Rate Review Commission will meet from September 2019 to April 2020. It meets every other year. Always check the Agendas & Minutes section of the website for information at https://www.newbergoregon.gov/meetings

The City is renovating the Public Safety Building because Public Works did a seismic evaluation of all City owned buildings in 2017. In January 2018, the City received a grant from Business Oregon for a seismic retrofit of the Public Safety Building. This facility houses police, the 9-1-1 Dispatch center, and serves as the City’s Emergency Operations Center. The retrofit project will strengthen selected shear walls, add hold-down anchors to resist overturning and uplift forces and improve the diaphragm connections to lateral force resisting elements in the roof system.
