A looming price tag for Mac building maintenance

The city of McMinnville is looking at a daunting price tag for building maintenance. It will be two and a half times construction cost to fix the main fire station between Baker and Adams, prompting counselors to think about building a new one.

No decision has yet been made, and councilors are waiting for reports from city staff on all the buildings the city uses. McMinnville City Manager Jeff Towery told council last night this will be a thoughtful discussion and take a year or more.

The city is reviewing seismic upgrades to buildings, including the fire station. The city, like the county, is pondering if a larger, centrally located single structure would be more cost effective and efficient to operate instead of having city government spread out all over town.
